Grayson's Glory

Today's volley. This time on CNN. The topic, of course, health care.

Just for reference, here's yesterday's bit on The Ed Show on MSNBC:

The ACORN Debate

ACORN has drawn fire from critics almost since day-one, but the allegations have gotten stronger and the organization finds itself defending the operation more and more frequently. Kudos to MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan for trying to some extremely combative guests in check this morning:

Double-Dose of MSNBC

I really don't like to do consecutive posts from the same source (MSNBC), but this one is just too funny!  Watch as the little boy tries to pick his mom's nose - on live TV! She's smooth in handling it, too!

More Fun TV

I caught this exchange one recent morning, but didn't see a clip until tonight. Maria Martiromo from CNBS guesting on MSNBC is a true "piece of work".
As reported by blogger D-Day, the fireworks were bright over in Starbucks-land this morning. "Excuse me, but if America is so bad, why is it that if I got sick or one of my loved one's got sick, well America is the best....?" best, best, best? That was Maria Bartiromo on Morning Joe, arguing with Matt Tiabbi about the health insurance issue. What she didn't say is that she has great health insurance as an anchor at[...]

The "Draft Lawrence O'Donnell" Movement

Lawrence O'Donnell has been filling in for Chris Matthews this week on MSNBC. He's impressed a lot of viewers with knowledge, tenacity, and feisty attitude. After today's program, an ad hoc group of fans started a Twitter group to try to gather enough names to give MSNBC something to think about. Here's the interview that opened a lot of eyes. Hold on to your hats. It's quite the ride!

Olbermann vs Hannity

Quick Friday Followup to my Twitter post last night, taking not of Keith Olbermann's promise to contribute $1,000 to charity for every second that Sean Hannity is waterboarded.  Olbermann went off on Hannity last night, after Hannity argued that waterboarding is not torture and, in fact, really isn't all that horrible.

Talking Education

I know. I know. It's been too long between posts. I've actually been busy, and that's a GOOD thing! I'll tell you all about the latest project - it's an exciting one! In the meantime, allow me to distract you for a few minutes with something I accidentally caught last night on the old TV machine. Ed Schultz has added an MSNBC program to on top of his radio show and his opening segment last night had some incredible information in it. Stick with the video until he gets into the high school dropout rate information. It will blow you away. He's right - we have a problem.  A BIG problem.

Tent Cities

Quite amazing. And a heartwrenching example of just how bad it's getting to be.

The Obama Speech

Keith Olbermann (by Chester Higgins Jr./NYT)Image by Stijn Vogels via Flickr

Let's look at the TV coverage of Obama's big speech Tuesday night. Once again, MSNBC is getting pounded for showing partiality. No kidding! Folks, the traditional lines have been blurred (if not completely obliterated) and I don't see us going back. Still, the debate continues.

The Case Against Olbermann Anchoring the Obama Address?

U.S. News & World Report’s Robert Schlessinger blogs about Keith Olbermann anchoring tonight’s Obama Address… "I’m an Olbermann fan. I enjoy his show (mostly). But he’s not a news reporter, he’s a commentator. The anchor role should be reserved for a straight news man, with the Keith Olbermanns, Pat Buchanans, Rachel Maddows, and so on giving [...]
And, then, there's the big debate over two little words, likely from the mouth of Chris Mathews, at the beginning of Governor Jindal's GOP response: "Oh, God"
UPDATE:

Chris Matthews Explains "Oh, God!" Utterance

 UPDATE 2: There's more:

The Morning After Look at the Jindal Response

I’m not sure what is selling lower this morning- Citibank or Jindal 2012 stock, but it really is hard to state accurately just how bad it was. It started off like this: That was Chris Matthews, and while the folks on the right will be screaming about liberal media bias, they might be wise to [...]

Shuster's Smackdown

MSNBC's David Shuster is picking up quite a reputation for going after politicians who just can't quite keep their stories straight.

David Shuster smacks down Rep. Darrell Issa's lies

When California Congressman Darrell Issa brings up the right-wing stimulus lie du jour -- the so-called "train to Sin City" -- David Shuster delivers a well-deserved smackdown, practically laughing at Issa for having the balls to spread that lie on his show. Good stuff. Bravo, David. Watch [...]

Friday Fun

We always try to find a way to have a little fun around here on Fridays. Frequently, MSNBC's Willie Geist offers up the best we see. Courtesy of "Morning Joe", here's Willie's "Best of the Week" segment from this morning.  Pay particular attention to his rundown of co-host Mika's "firsts"..

Let The Parties Begin

After our frigid weather late last week, we're seeing a wonderfully sunny and warm Sunday. In Washington, the concerts and parties leading up to the inauguration have begun. The cable folks are wall-to-wall with coverage, the MSNBC anchors still warmly tucked away inside, in front of huge windows to the Washington Mall. CNN still seems dedicated to having their anchors and guests try to look warm in their outdoor set. How big a nerd am I? I'm torn between sticking with the inauguration coverage or watching the NFL playoffs.  Guess it's finally time to figure out how to make the picture-in-picture function on my TV work! While I work on that, take a moment to consider the newest numbers about the Obama Administration:

No pressure

It's not unusual for presidents to take office with a degree of public optimism, but Barack Obama will be sworn in with hopefulness that we haven't seen in a long while. To the added advantage of the incoming [...]

Competition Is Good

That's why I'm pleased that MSNBC is getting some good numbers. It helps even the laying field with Fox and CNN. However, I'd really appreciate it if they'd cool it with the "Breaking News" stuff during the day. When you're doing the same "Breaking News" two hours after you first "Broke" it, I get irritated. And change the channel. Take heed.

2008 Numbers: MSNBC…

MSNBC is noting its 2008 ratings… MSNBC HAS BEST YEAR EVER – IS FASTEST GROWING CHANNEL IN ALL OF TELEVISION IN 2008 “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” Dominates “Campbell Brown” at 8 PM “The Rachel Maddow Show” Out-Rates “Larry King Live” Launch to Date NEW YORK – Dec. 17, 2008 – MSNBC had its best year ever in 2008 and [...]

Inroads

Big time.

October Ratings - MSNBC: "We Tamed the Giant of Larry King"

Brian Williams couldn't do it. Neither could Joe Scarborough, Rita Cosby, Dan Abrams, Ashleigh Banfield, Deborah Norville or Alan Keyes . But MSNBC's new 9pmET show did. The [...]
