Ya' Just Gotta Love It!

I have to admit that this really made my day! It's been a rough couple of days, on a personal level, so it's good to come up for air and see that the White House is trashing Glenn Beck!  That's right!

The Washington Examiner’s Liz Barrett notes that the White House blog tried to fact check Glenn Beck today… The official White House blog post for Wednesday said Fox News shows a blatant “disregard for the facts,” listing a litany of Glenn Beck rethoric that does not match up with reality. The post was written by staffer Jesse [...]

Finally, Some Agressive Questioning

I didn't catch all of the Sunday talkers today (heck, it was all-Obama, All-the-time), but this makes it look like David Gregory did a pretty good job in dealing with another guest on another topic.

RNC Chairman Michael Steele recently sent out a fundraising letter saying that President Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress are attempting a “socialist power grab.” Today on NBC’s Meet the Press, host David Gregory pressed House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) on whether such language was appropriate. Boehner tried to dodge the question, insisting that [...]

Change of Plans

We criticized this idea, so it's only fair to let you know that the plans have changed. Darn smart move, I'd say.

Last week, the Arlington Independent School District in Texas decided not to show President Obama’s address to students because it reportedly didn’t want to interrupt its regularly scheduled lesson plans. However, the district did determine that it would be worthwhile to bus 600 fifth-graders off-campus on Sept. 21 to hear President Bush speak. After [...]

Civics 101

Okay, friends, neighbors, and countrymen - let's spend a couple of minutes on today's Civics Lesson. You remember that from school, don't you?  Where you learn how the government operates? Seems some folks in the health care debate weren't paying attention in class!

One of the newest right-wing memes is that federal government doesn’t have the constitutional authority to enact health care reform. At a town hall protest in San Diego on Saturday, one attendee tried to make one of these “tenther” arguments by holding up a copy of the “U.S.S. Constitution’: Right here. I got a book here [...]

Gonzo Backs Torture Probe

Eric Holder is getting support for his decision to announce a criminal probe of torture from an unlikely source: Alberto Gonzales. The former Attorney General told a radio interviewer for the Washington Times: We worked very hard to establish ground [...]

Bad Face For Religion

My gut (and my upbringing) tell me that this isn't what religion is all about.  In all fairness, let's remember that this is one church, one pastor, and one church member.  Still, what's the old saying? Where there's smoke....

Secret Service 'Aware Of' Gun-Toter And Pastor's Prayers For Obama To Die

America's "Thelma and Louise" Moment

It happened today at the end of the President's Health Care forum and it got a chuckle, despite the seriousness of what Obama was trying to say.

Obama jokes that health care reform can’t follow the path of Thelma and Louise ‘over the cliff.’

At today’s White House health care summit, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) observed, “We’re past the Harry and Louise moment,” referring to the the 1990s anti-health reform ad campaign. “We’re at the Thelma and Louise moment. We’re in the car heading for the cliff.” (Watch it.) At the conclusion of the summit today, President Obama quoted [...]

It's Not Rush's Fault

Of course not. All the blame belongs on the White House. Yup. You betcha.

The Official GOP Talking Points On Limbaugh

It took them awhile, but the GOP has come up with their official talking point on Rush Limbaugh. Here's John Boehner, from an article that went up on Politico at 4:46 (EST):"It's a huge distraction created by the White House" to avoid talking about [...]

Here Comes The Credit

Maybe. Unless it comes with strings attached like those from the credit cards we have. Skyrocketing interest rates, late fees, and over-limit fees. I'm headed back to cash.

Fed Launches Program to Stimulate Consumer Credit

The Federal Reserve rolled out program today geared towards ”boosting the availability of credit to consumers and small businesses.” The Fed will lend up to $200 billion to spur consumer lending — for autos, education, credit cards and other things. The bold program, dubbed the Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility, was first announced late last year and [...]

Why Is Obama Pushing So Hard?

Simple. Fineman says he's trying to beat the other team to the goal on a basketball court.

Looking Ahead

If our new president thought he got hit with a couple of rounds of bad news today (losing two more nominees), there are several predictions out there that Friday could be worse. Why? One word: jobs.

When Black Friday comes

As Politico says, this has been the toughest week for Obama yet. The Daschle withdrawl (which I’m glad to see) will be discussed endlessly for the next 68 hours or so. And we’ll see another two days of approving coverage of the McCain-Wurzelbacher anti-stimulus jihad. But Friday morning, there’s going to [...]

Rove On Obama's People

So, why is this a big deal. Why is it ANY concern of Rove's?

Rove Blasts Obama Use of Office Space

Karl Rove is upset with President Obama because he's managing the White House differently than his old boss."It is rumored that as many as 160 people will be in the West Wing under Mr. Obama. Under President George W. Bush there were [...]

The Honeymoon

The more I read, the more I believe Obama is seeing one of the shortest honeymoons on record.

Presidential Honeymoons - A Messy Process

Howard Fineman, the Washington-based political columnist writing for msnbc.com, contends the honeymoon between President Obama and Congress is over. Not so fast, Mr. Fineman, whom I consider one of the better political observers in the media. A political honeymoon is the brief period the president gets what he wants from Congress with almost no questions asked. [...]

Waiting On The Ice

Here we are, watching and waiting. Watching TV coverage of the ice pelting Arkansas, beginning just north of where we are. Waiting for what's promised and predicted for our evening and tomorrow. It's truly nasty up north, thousands without power. And the ice continues. Spring. I'm ready. Hurry up. In Washington, Obama's "honeymoon" seems to have been short-lived. To say the least.

Key Democrat trying to kill health care reform

His name is James Clyburn's (D-S.C.), he's a senior member of Speaker Pelosi's leadership, and he's trying to kill health care reform this year. Clyburn, for no apparent reason, went on TV (twice) in the past few days and said we likely won't be doing anything on health care reform this year - even though Obama has said otherwise, and it was a key promise in the campaign. You see, Clyburn says [...]

Out Of The Gate...

The numbers were good. But, will they continue? Much depends on how effectively the Obama Administration can push that stimulus package through Congress.

Obama's job approval: 68 percent

President Barack Obama started his first week in office with one of the highest starting job-approval ratings of any president in nearly 60 years - 68 percent approval in the Gallup Poll's tracking of his first full three days in office.Only John F. Kennedy started out stronger, in 1961, with a job-approval rating of [...]

Clinton Lawyer: Obama's Order Designed To Pry Loose Key Bush Docs

Already, a consensus of experts has formed to tell TPMmuckraker and others that President Obama's executive order on presidential records, issued Wednesday, could impact efforts to pry loose key documents from the Bush White House. And the man who served [...]

The Obama Administration And Torture

The Obama Administration seems to have made things quite clear: torture is out. Plain and simple. Open and shut. Or are there outs?

WSJ Insists Obama Is Leaving Door Open For A ‘Jack Bauer Exception’ To His Torture Ban

Yesterday, President Obama signed an executive order banning the use of torture in all military and CIA interrogations of suspected terrorists. The order specifically revoked the legal memos written by the Bush administration to justify the use of torture on detainees. Today, the Wall Street Journal editorializes that Obama “wants to have it both ways [...]

Desperation

Guess he's really desperate to attract an audience with his new Fox show. Even Drudge (so far) hasn't ventured into this territory.

Glenn Beck freaks out about the missing Bible at Obama’s do-over swearing in.

Today on his new Fox News show, Glenn Beck panicked about the re-do oath of office President Obama took last night, because Obama did not place his hand on a Bible. “I checked. We have never had a president sworn into office without a Bible,” he intoned dramatically. Watch it: Beck is simply wrong. As Slate [...]

Obama Orders Detention Facility at Guantanamo Closed

Moving to make good on one of his key campaign pledges, President Obama this morning signed a series of executive orders to close the detention facility at the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The orders, signed at a West Wing ceremony, specify the closure should occur within 12 months. Obama is also ending [...]
