Monday of Another Week

It's a dreary  Monday around here, with rain still threatening. There's not a lot going on, even on the political front. Obama's on vacation and that brings up an interesting note online.
Obama's On Vacation, McCain's Press Office is...Silent
With Sen. Barack Obama vacationing in Hawaii, Sen. John McCain now has an opportunity—one that will not likely come again before the November general election—to push its message to the public while the presumed Democratic nominee relaxes on the beach. So has the McCain campaign come out swinging this week? Not really. Much of the talk today has [...]

Yikes!!

Okay, so I've been absent. Again.  Good reason, though. We've been completely re-doing storage around the house, something that's a bit easier now that both kids have moved on!  I've been assembling storage units for the garage and utility room, moving kitchen appliances to free up kitchen storage for other items, etc.

Nothing glamorous, I'm afraid, but more than enough to keep me busy!  However, the news this afternoon that the National Enquirer got one at least partially correct came as a bit of a surprise. And doesn't bode well for future political hopes for one John Edwards.

John Edwards admits affair to ABC News

Okay. For the record, I really don't care who sleeps with whom -- as long as the person isn't a hypocrite. But, this long-rumored story is now sweeping through the traditional and online media. I debated whether even to post this revelation, but we're adults and it's news. It's out there. I'm not [...]

On The Road

He's STILL on the road.  But, there's something just "wrong" about John McCain at the Sturgis Biker Rally. Especially when he does this...
John McCain’s Unpresidential Exploitation of His Wife
I’ve missed a lot of big news today… Including the very unpresidential act commited by John McCain at the 68th annual Sturgis Rally at Buffalo Chip campground, when he exploited his wife, Cindy McCain in front of a ”tens of thousands” of cheering bikers:...The Buffalo Chip beauty contest, that McCain was referring to is an “infamously [...]

Caring For Our Veterans

Locally, the Arkansas Times has a linke to a Washington Times article PLUS some accompanying explanation from those involved.  It all makes for fascinating reading, not to mention the comments that are included with the blog post.

Personally, I'm not sure if the WT is on target, or the locals have a legit explanation.  Perhaps, as is often the case, the truth lies somewhere in between.  At the very least, for those of you who don't peruse all the local blogs and publications, this is an excellent read...

LR vet research: 'rampant violations' UPDATE

The Washington Times reports something that sounds like a bombshell in the local medical community: "An investigation of research conducted at an Arkansas veterans hospital has uncovered rampant violations in its human experiments program, including missing consent forms, secret HIV testing and failure to report more than 100 deaths of subjects participating in studies. The Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on [...]

The Anthrax Story

Just in case you haven't been following this story in the non-mainstream media, it's a good one. Pay attention.  It takes some effort to follow the plot line, but it's worth is.  Something is fishy.  REALLY fishy.

Exclusive: The Purported 'Anthrax Killer' Was a Registered Democrat
Bruce E. Ivins, reportedly on the verge of being indicted for capital murder in the anthrax killings, was a registered Democrat, according to the Fredrick County, MD Board of Elections. He had been registered there since 1982 and records indicate that he voted in "every election since 1996," [...]

Countdown Loses A Regular

Dana Milbank was a regular contributor to Countdown with Keith Olbermann.  You remember him, dressed in hunter orange, talking about Dick Cheney...

No more. It's kinda sad, really.

Dana Milbank And Unhappy Endings

Since I was a little less than proactive about this issue last week on television (for reasons which I think will become readily apparent), I thought I'd offer a little preview of an item on tonight's Countdown. The headline: Dana Milbank won't be on the news hour any more [...]

Housing Problems

It ain't getting better..

Housing Lenders Fear Bigger Wave of Loan Defaults

The first wave of Americans to default on their home mortgages appears to be cresting, but a second, far larger one is quickly building. Homeowners with good credit are [...]

Here Come The Delegates

Late Sunday news from the political front...Obama wants all of those pesky delegates from Michigan and Florida seated!  Didn't Hillary want the same?

Obama to DNC: Give full seating to Michigan and Florida
Not unexpected and this move is obviously directed at the upcoming general election. The real implications, however, are for the next cycle in 2012. Have Michigan and Florida finally broken the stranglehold of Iowa and New Hampshire?: [...]

Home Of The Free?

Maybe it's time to come up with a new slogan. Aren't we getting just a bit TOO worried about U. S. citizens making day trips to Canada?

REMINDER: This is No Longer "The Home of the Free"

I just had the distinctly painful experience of reading yet another account of what was supposed to be one man's innocuous trip to and from Canada but became a vivid and infuriating revelation (to him, if not to those of us who've already experienced it) that, as he puts it,"This country is being run like a minimum security prison - you're free to do whatever you want as long as you stay within the borders. If you leave, [...]

Journalism 101 (or 102)

Sometimes what you find in the blogosphere really does make you sit up and go "huh?!?!" Case in point discovered this evening...

Journalists, their lying sources, and the anthrax investigation
The death of government scientist Bruce Ivins has generated far more questions about the anthrax attacks than it has answered. I want to return to the role the establishment media played in obfuscating the anthrax investigation for so long and, at times, aiding in what was clearly the deliberate deceit on the part of Government sources. This is yet another case where the establishment media possesses -- yet steadfastly conceals -- some of the most critical facts about what the Government has done, and insists on [...]
