Campbell Olbermann????

My, my, my!  Campbell Brown must be channeling Keith Olbermann!  The CNN anchor (on the air in Olbermann's time slot, by the way) really laid into the McCain campaign last night.  For what? By the way, you'll find video clips on both the links below.

Campbell Brown Rips McCain Camp's "Sexist" Treatment Of Palin

A prominent female news anchor chastised the McCain campaign Tuesday evening for engaging in sexism and insulting behavior in its attempt to shield Gov. Sarah Palin from members of the press. In a fiery commentary, Campbell Brown laid into John McCain for casting a "chauvinistic chain" that ran over his running mate. Punctuated by a call to "Free Sarah Palin," the CNN anchor highlighted the attempt Tuesday by the McCain campaign to ban editorial reporters from covering Palin's visit with world leaders at the UN, as yet another [...]
And, NBC's Andrea Mitchell joined in the piling-on:

NBC’s Mitchell likens McCain-Palin media restrictions to experiences in North Korea, Syria, and Sudan.

Yesterday, media covering Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-AK) visit to the United Nations revolted when the McCain-Palin campaign tried to back out of its promise to allow journalists to cover the governor’s meetings with various world leaders. Last night on MSNBC, chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell compared the whole affair to her experiences trying to [...]

Hmmm

I'm not saying it's all accurate, but it's a heck of a rumor.  Really...

And they'll spin this as "he was only trying to help his poor, drug-addicted wife"
I wish I could believe that this would have an impact on the campaign. But since Tom Brokaw has come out and said that John McCain gets a free pass on everything in his life because he was a prisoner of war, I guess he'll get a free pass on this one too.  I'd heard that there was something nasty about to come out [...]

Updates

It's Sarah Palin day. I know I've been absent. Still. 'nuff said. And, ouch. I missed the interview tonight, but the link has the copy.  And the choice quote...

Palin on the Bush Doctrine

But, others will argue..

Where's He Been?

If any of you were worried, you shouldn't be. I spent a couple of weeks babysitting the new granddaughter and still trying to figure out my next occupation.
Skimming through Bloglines tonight, I noticed a couple of notes about the RNC.  Palin's speech is getting a  lot of attention, but it appears to have sent more money to the Obama campaign than to McCain's.
And, from Tuesday night, word that Cindy McCain's outfit wasn't from Target.
Go ahead. Follow that link. We're not talking a few thousand bucks here. We're talking  MEGA bucks!
UPDATE:  Just one more little thing.  That big jet that Palin keeps saying she listed on Ebay and sold at a profit? Not quite the real story.

Monday of Another Week

It's a dreary  Monday around here, with rain still threatening. There's not a lot going on, even on the political front. Obama's on vacation and that brings up an interesting note online.
Obama's On Vacation, McCain's Press Office is...Silent
With Sen. Barack Obama vacationing in Hawaii, Sen. John McCain now has an opportunity—one that will not likely come again before the November general election—to push its message to the public while the presumed Democratic nominee relaxes on the beach. So has the McCain campaign come out swinging this week? Not really. Much of the talk today has [...]

On The Road

He's STILL on the road.  But, there's something just "wrong" about John McCain at the Sturgis Biker Rally. Especially when he does this...
John McCain’s Unpresidential Exploitation of His Wife
I’ve missed a lot of big news today… Including the very unpresidential act commited by John McCain at the 68th annual Sturgis Rally at Buffalo Chip campground, when he exploited his wife, Cindy McCain in front of a ”tens of thousands” of cheering bikers:...The Buffalo Chip beauty contest, that McCain was referring to is an “infamously [...]

Sunday Night

Nearing the end of a busy weekend and a busy Sunday.  Visited the new grandaughter and her mom and dad this afternoon, then came home and fixed BLT sandwiches. There's not much that pleases my taste buds better than one of those, with fresh, ripe tomatoes and good bread.  We add some fresh basil to the mix and it brightens up the taste even more.  Now, traffic in front of the house is slowing to the normal Sunday evening pace, since most stores are closed and people are returning to get set for another week. I can safely put my feet up, scan through bloglines, as pass along some interesting bits.

Let's just go for a combo post tonight, since I'm quite sure it's going to be an early night for us old folks! We begin with an excellent question...

So why on earth is John McCain polling at 40-45%?

Over three quarters of Americans think this country is on the wrong track: "The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. Poll showed that 24 percent have a positive outlook for the country, while[...]

Obama, McCain to meet in September — but probably not sooner
In June, the McCain and Obama campaigns considered some proposals for expanding the presidential debates beyond the three approved and organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). Obama’s team proposed that both sides agree to the CPD events, plus a debate focused exclusively on foreign policy, plus a town-hall debate, for a total of [...]
 What Happened?
Jed of the Jed Report saw my post on McCain’s outright lies that he supported the MLK holiday in Arizona and pulled together different footage of the same event, which makes that awkward pause in McCain’s answer that [...]
No Change of Direction for Conservatism
Here are a couple of articles that ought to be read together. The first is in today’s Washington Post, by Greg Anrig — “McCain’s Problem Isn’t His Tactics. It’s GOP Ideas.” There’s so much of this I’d like to excerpt I have to ask you to read the whole thing. He begins by talking about how [...]

Assault

Oh, my.  Tough talk and getting tougher. But, you know, he has a point. McCain has baggage.

"For a man who will turn 72 this month, he's a surprisingly immature politician"

Newsweek's Jonathan Alter on the new John McCain. This is a must-read. Alter is a staple of inside-the-beltway journalism (whether or not he's actually inside the beltway). When people like Jonathan Alter start saying you've jumped the shark, your reputation is [...]

1, 2 ,3

That's all we get. Three debates. No town halls. I was hoping for more variety. More content.

Obama, McCain Set Debates, But 'Town Hall' Idea Officially Dead

Barack Obama and John McCain will debate head-to-head three times - and almost certainly only three times - according to an acceptance letter Obama’s campaign manager sent to the Commission on [...]

It's a Loverly Game

This thing called "politics" is just so much fun. While I've been away from the keyboard, the McCain folks came up with a TV ad featuring Britney Spears.  That's right.  They invoked the image of America's favorite little girl. Is it a negative ad?  Nope, says the candidate.  Not at all.

McCain: Our Campaign Isn't "Negative In The Slightest"

John McCain just held a presser in Florida. Here are the, er, high points: • Said "I don't think our campaign is negative in the slightest." There are negative McCain ads running as we speak, and in the very same [...]

The Age Issue

FYI - the MOVE continues.  Still working on getting daughter settled into the new place.  We're nearing the end of the major part of the MOVE, though.  Still, that's why posts have been few.  By the time evening rolls around, I'm tired.  And early morning doesn't last as long as usual, when you have extra things to do!

So, one quick note from the campaign trail. Where, it seems, age is becoming a real, but subtle, issue.

Obama Takes Cues From Bill Clinton In Handling McCain's Age

They have been the preferred adjectives for the Obama campaign when going after its opponent. Following a John McCain misstatement, policy shift, or harsh attack, the Senator is usually labeled "confused," "angry," or a hybrid of the two. Aides to the Illinois Democrat insist there is no deeper meaning to their word choices. But it is hard not to notice the underlying suggestion of such remarks: John McCain is old. It is a standard fare in politics to [...]

Quick Saturday Update

It's been a busy day.  Hit the farmer's market with the kids and their families (including the future in-laws), grabbed lunch downtown (I'm always surprised at the number of establishments that opt to become "over 21" to allow smoking, at the expense of losing lots of potential business from families with children. We'll spend much of tomorrow helping our daughter move from her apartment into a house.  It's only minutes from us, so that's a GOOD thing!  More family "stuff" on tap for tonight, but I took a moment to scan bloglines and came up with a good one for you, via AMERICAblog.  Let's just say the national media is beginning to look just a tad bit biased at times.  Need evidence?

Exposing the blatant bias -- and unprofessional journalism -- of ABC's Gibson and Stephanopoulos again

Jed slices and dices ABC's latest report on the presidential race. Watch the video and you'll see, it's pretty appalling: "After tonight’s broadcast of ABC News with Charlie Gibson, ABC might as well openly declare its support for John McCain. Hours after first watching it, I’m still stunned at just how blatant its bias was. About the only good thing [...]

Two-Faced Politics

John McCain has really backed himself into another corner. He seems to have a rather strong propensity to do such things, doesn't he?

Vets blasts McCain's double standard of attacking Obama for doing what McCain did, too

...On the other hand, Brandon Friedman from VoteVets, who knows a thing or two about how the military operates, didn't buy McCain's attacks. Instead, he exposed McCain's double standard, linking to an April 2008 CNN report where McCain adviser Steve Schmidt said of visits to military installations, [...]

Trying For Attention

It's looking like John McCain's appearance on CNN this afternoon (see below) was probably a rather blatant attempt at grabbing back some headlines.  The problem is, he's getting a lot of negative press over what he said.  Meanwhile...

The Invisible Maverick

Poor John McCain. Barack Obama's trip across the pond is going rather well. Important foreign leaders are all but endorsing him. Kings are literally playing his chauffeur. So, other than continuing to make a fool of himself, what can the Republican standard-bearer do? Well, the Washington Post reports: "Anxious to counter [...]

Putting Words in His Mouth

John McCain’s handlers must be really having a rough evening.  He’s being called on the political carpet for not one, but SEVERAL things he said in a late afternoon interview on CNN.  I spent a good part of this afternoon getting my second Sirius unit hooked up to play through the stereo in the family room, so I was peaking signal readings and not watching TV!  Here’s what I missed (did you miss it, too?)

McCain On Maliki's Endorsement Of Obama's Pullout Timeline: He Didn't Mean It

Okay, John McCain just wrapped up his interview with CNN, and there were a couple of real live ones in there that should juice up your happy hour a bit. First, McCain dealt with Nouri al-Maliki's inconvenient endorsement of Obama's [...]

Mid-Week Update

Finally found a few moments to wade through the wonderful world of blogging, and stumbled on a few things that really caught my eye. I know I've been bad about updating lately, and I apologize. Now, start reading. And, don't be afraid to leave a comment along the way.

English Only Rule Aimed at High School Valedictorian

The folks of Terrabone Parish in Louisiana want to cultivate their image as being backwards. Their lack of values are showing. Now they are set to require all speeches be made in English after the Valedictorian included a sentence of
Vietnamese in hers -- she did so to honor her parents, proving her own strong
values.

McCain gets ‘visibly angry’ when challenged on whether military experience prepares him to be president.

ABC News’ David Wright reports that when he asked John McCain to “explain how his Vietnam experience prepared him for the presidency,” McCain “became visibly angry”: McCain became visibly angry when I asked him to explain how his Vietnam experience prepared him for the Presidency. “Please,” he said, recoiling back in his seat in distaste at the [...]

Bush Stimulates The Porn Industry With His Economic Package

When President Bush announced his economic stimulus in January, he bragged that his package was the “right size” and would “boost” the economy: "I am pleased that this agreement meets the criterion that I set forth last week to provide an effective, robust, and temporary set of incentives that will boost our economy and [...]
