Where's He Been?

If any of you were worried, you shouldn't be. I spent a couple of weeks babysitting the new granddaughter and still trying to figure out my next occupation.
Skimming through Bloglines tonight, I noticed a couple of notes about the RNC.  Palin's speech is getting a  lot of attention, but it appears to have sent more money to the Obama campaign than to McCain's.
And, from Tuesday night, word that Cindy McCain's outfit wasn't from Target.
Go ahead. Follow that link. We're not talking a few thousand bucks here. We're talking  MEGA bucks!
UPDATE:  Just one more little thing.  That big jet that Palin keeps saying she listed on Ebay and sold at a profit? Not quite the real story.

Monday of Another Week

It's a dreary  Monday around here, with rain still threatening. There's not a lot going on, even on the political front. Obama's on vacation and that brings up an interesting note online.
Obama's On Vacation, McCain's Press Office is...Silent
With Sen. Barack Obama vacationing in Hawaii, Sen. John McCain now has an opportunity—one that will not likely come again before the November general election—to push its message to the public while the presumed Democratic nominee relaxes on the beach. So has the McCain campaign come out swinging this week? Not really. Much of the talk today has [...]

Here Come The Delegates

Late Sunday news from the political front...Obama wants all of those pesky delegates from Michigan and Florida seated!  Didn't Hillary want the same?

Obama to DNC: Give full seating to Michigan and Florida
Not unexpected and this move is obviously directed at the upcoming general election. The real implications, however, are for the next cycle in 2012. Have Michigan and Florida finally broken the stranglehold of Iowa and New Hampshire?: [...]

Just For The Record

In case it actually works out this way, remember where you saw this post.  Okay?

Forecasting Models Predict Obama Win
"Economic models that have correctly predicted the winner of almost all post-war U.S. presidential elections say recession fears will secure a victory for Barack Obama in November," according to Reuters "Three separate studies showed [...]

Sunday Night

Nearing the end of a busy weekend and a busy Sunday.  Visited the new grandaughter and her mom and dad this afternoon, then came home and fixed BLT sandwiches. There's not much that pleases my taste buds better than one of those, with fresh, ripe tomatoes and good bread.  We add some fresh basil to the mix and it brightens up the taste even more.  Now, traffic in front of the house is slowing to the normal Sunday evening pace, since most stores are closed and people are returning to get set for another week. I can safely put my feet up, scan through bloglines, as pass along some interesting bits.

Let's just go for a combo post tonight, since I'm quite sure it's going to be an early night for us old folks! We begin with an excellent question...

So why on earth is John McCain polling at 40-45%?

Over three quarters of Americans think this country is on the wrong track: "The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. Poll showed that 24 percent have a positive outlook for the country, while[...]

Obama, McCain to meet in September — but probably not sooner
In June, the McCain and Obama campaigns considered some proposals for expanding the presidential debates beyond the three approved and organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD). Obama’s team proposed that both sides agree to the CPD events, plus a debate focused exclusively on foreign policy, plus a town-hall debate, for a total of [...]
 What Happened?
Jed of the Jed Report saw my post on McCain’s outright lies that he supported the MLK holiday in Arizona and pulled together different footage of the same event, which makes that awkward pause in McCain’s answer that [...]
No Change of Direction for Conservatism
Here are a couple of articles that ought to be read together. The first is in today’s Washington Post, by Greg Anrig — “McCain’s Problem Isn’t His Tactics. It’s GOP Ideas.” There’s so much of this I’d like to excerpt I have to ask you to read the whole thing. He begins by talking about how [...]

Tap-Dancing Around the Issue

I"m trying to figure out exactly what Obama is trying to say about off-shore drilling. It's looking like he's begining to tap-dance around the issue, more than just a little bit. I know politics is about change, but...

Obama Says He Would Agree to Some Drilling

Senator Barack Obama said that he would reluctantly consider accepting some new offshore oil drilling in the Gulf of [...]

1, 2 ,3

That's all we get. Three debates. No town halls. I was hoping for more variety. More content.

Obama, McCain Set Debates, But 'Town Hall' Idea Officially Dead

Barack Obama and John McCain will debate head-to-head three times - and almost certainly only three times - according to an acceptance letter Obama’s campaign manager sent to the Commission on [...]
