Sunday Morning Comin' Down..

Somewhat appropriate for a Sunday morning:  Religion, George Bush, and the Middle East. Intrigued? You should be.
Bush's Shocking Biblical Prophecy Emerges: God Wants to "Erase" Mid-East Enemies "Before a New Age Begins"
Bush explained to French Pres. Chirac that the Biblical creatures Gog and Magog were at work in the Mid-East and must be defeated.

Second Place

2nd place - that's where Susan Boyle ended up in the finals of "Britain's Got Talent". A dance troupe won. Just because I stumbled upon it, here's the link to the video.

And, to save you the trouble of digging around that site for it, here's the dance troupe that won. Pretty darn impressive, I must admit.

Words Escape Me

And, I assume, there are grown men and women behind this proposterous @$#%. Oh, check that. Two words. Michelle. Malkin. 'nuff said.

Fox News Embraces Right-Wing Theory That Obama Is Forcing GOP-Owned Car Dealerships To Close

Citing a handful of right-wing bloggers yesterday afternoon, the Washington Examiner reported ominously, “Evidence appears to be mounting that the Obama administration has systematically targeted Chrysler dealers who contributed to Republicans” for closure. Not to be outdone, Fox and Friends hosted conservative blogger Michelle Malkin this morning to play up the conspiracy theory. “Believe me [...]

The Day in 100 Seconds

I haven't posted one of these in a while, but it's time for a refresher course from the gang at Talking Points Memo TV. Each day they take highlights from the day's cable news programs and edit it all down to a 100 second summary of the big stories. Enlightening AND amusing!

Those Darn Kids

It's almost the weekend.  Time for one of those "feel-good" posts. I love it when there's good news about our nation's young people to balance the bad.

The youth of today are so obsessed with themselves

Isn't that the story that's been pitched the last few years? You know, the story from aging boomers that says all of the kids today are narcissistic and obsessed with material goods or the complaint that was made about boomers by previous generations. Maybe, just maybe that story was false from the beginning. When school starts next fall, "Teach for America will send[...]

Not Giving Up

George W. Bush has been very quiet since leaving office.  He's out of hiding, back doing speeches, and some things never change.

Bush still pre-screening questions at speaking events.

Throughout George W. Bush’s presidency, his handlers always made a special effort to ensure his appearances with regular Americans were scripted in such a way that shined the best possible light on Bush and his polices. Whether he was meeting troops in Iraq, leading “Ask President Bush” re-election campaign events, or trying to sell his [...]

The Torture Debate

Once again, the "real world" has kept me away from this keyboard. Apologies. Sincere apologies. In case you didn't see it, take a few minutes to watch Olbermann talk torture with Chicago radio guy, Mancow. Politically opposite, they find unexpected common ground on the issue of "waterboarding" after Mancow does what Hannity will not - lets himself BE waterboarded.

Ventura's On A Roll

It's a one-two punch for Jesse Ventura.  First, The View (see below) and then Hannity. It's a whoopin', folks!  Follow the link for a transcript AND video!

Jesse Ventura Pwns Hannity

There's nothing more satisfying on Fox News than seeing Sean Hannity get smacked down by an unapologetic opponent. Last night (5/18/09), Hannity was put on the defensive right away during his interview with Jesse Ventura and never gained the upper hand. Hannity was so desperate to counter Ventura's damning statements about the Bush administration that Hannity first said the country was better off at the end of the Bush administration than it was at the beginning, and then [...]

Best Argument Yet

I've never been a huge Jesse Ventura fan, but he made one heck of a good point this week on The View. They were talking torture.  Waterboarding, specifically. Take a look.

Intermission Time

We started this in the post just below this one - some simply amazing memories from the 50's and 60's - intermission films from the Drive-In theatre! This will give you something to talk with the "kids" about. Feel free to share your memories in the comments!

Drive-In Theatres

Okay, blogosphere. Time for a bit of history fun.  Some of  you are too young to remember the days of the Drive-In theatre. In the 50's and 60's, it seemed like every town had at least one of them. I'd forgotten how great the intermission films were! Stand by for some great memories!

Bad Business

Some things are just naturally problematic for my blood pressure! I've been too busy lately to really stay on top of some stories, but this one just blew up in my email.

Officials Knew Of AIG Bonuses Months Before Scandal

As American International Group chief executive Edward M. Liddy returns to Washington to face Congress today, new details are emerging about how long federal officials were aware of the company's recent bonus payments to its executives and of how inflammatory the [...]

More Today Than Yesterday

Dick Cheney's being interviewed more these days than he was while in office.  I think it's probably time to let him disappear from the limelight. Even George Bush has kept a low-key life since leaving the White House. Cheney, on the other hand, pops up for radio and TV interviews every week or so!

Cheney: "Mistake" For GOP To "Moderate," Glad That Detainees Were Waterboarded

Former Vice President Dick Cheney defended the Bush administration's use of waterboarding on Thursday, saying that, contrary to arguments made by Barack Obama, the techniques were a necessary last-resort measure to get information from detainees.
"I don't believe that's true," Cheney said, when asked to respond to Obama's statement that interrogators may not have needed to resort to torture. "That assumes that we [..]
But, wait! There's more!

Cheney: ‘I think it would be a mistake’ for the GOP to become more moderate.

With only 20 percent of Americans self-identifying as Republicans, the GOP is searching for a way forward. Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME), along with Colin Powell, have said the GOP must move toward the center to expand its tent. In an interview with Scott Hennen, a North Dakota radio host, Cheney declared [...]

Zipped Lips

I don't want to drive any additional viewers to Sean Hannity on Fox News, but he's become spectacularly silent on this whole waterboarding issue. It's most ironic and quite funny, really.

Hannity’s Two-Week Silence: Is He Ready To Admit Waterboarding Is Torture?

On April 22, Fox News’ Sean Hannity volunteered to be waterboarded after ardently defending the practice and excoriating President Obama for ending the technique. “Clearly this president has not done his homework, and it is putting each and every American at risk,” Hannity said about ending torture. Declaring he is “for enhanced interrogation,” Hannity said [...]

Quiet Resignation

I certainly didn't see this one coming! And haven't really heard anything about it from any other sources.

Joe The Plumber Quitting The GOP: Time Magazine

Stop the presses... (even though we haven't received the press release yet). Time Magazine is reporting - burying rather - the news that Joe the Plumber, also known as Samuel Wurzelbacher, is quitting the GOP. That's big news considering [...]

Worried About Bloggers

Sometimes fears are simply unfounded. Give me a break!

Graham: ‘If we’re going to let the bloggers run the country, then the country’s best days are behind us.’

After it was announced earlier this week that Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) would replace Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) as the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, bloggers, including ThinkProgress, noted that Sessions had a record of racial insensitivity that stopped his appointment to the federal bench in 1986. Now, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is [...]

Is Radio Dead?

Not quite dead, but it's sure on life-support. We've lost most of the local programming that created the healthy radio environment back in the 1950's, 60's and 70's. From one of my favorite bloggers, some appropriate thoughts on what radio WAS.

“TV gives everyone an image, but radio gives birth to a million images in a million brains.”

...I read an interesting op ed piece in the paper today. It was about the demise of radio and was, ironically, in a paper on its last legs. Both are victims of technology. I can't begin to imagine a morning without the paper or a ride in the car without the radio. They have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Getting a radio was a rite of passage when I was a kid. I still remember my first one, the brown leather cased radio with the holes. I've mentioned it before. It was [...]

Advertising Dollars

I know. I know. I've been bad. Posting has been down. We return to our regular programming with some industry chatter about advertising. For somebody in my business, it's good news.

Ad Spending Drops Overall, But Internet Advertising Up

Total U.S. ad spending fell 4.1 percent last year, to $141.7 billion -- and declined 9.2 percent in the fourth quarter alone, according to a new report from TNS Media Intelligence. Internet advertising was one of the few media sectors to report an uptick in spending, rising 4.6 percent, while magazines were down 7.5 percent and newspapers fell [...]

The Big Race

Since we missed the Kentucky Derby (thanks to Comcast taking a dive just as the horses got to the starting gate - weather, I'm guessing), had to turn to YouTube for the race. Pretty darn incredible:
