Active Audience

The audience at last night's Republican Debate really got into it, becoming quite loud, at times. Kind of takes the "dignified" edge off it, doesn't it?


Conservatives boo the American public.



During a GOP presidential debate last night, Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) said, “I think the American people — if we as a party realize this and understand it — seventy-some percent of the people in America want the war over with. They’re sick and tired of it. And they want our troops to come home.” [...]

Bush Hits Record Low Approval



Just 25% of Americans approve of the way President Bush is handling his job as president and 67% disapprove, according to the latest American Research Group survey. This matches the lowest approval rating he's ever recorded in the poll. When it comes to Bush's handling of the economy, [...]



Those low numbers can be, in my mind, at least partially attributable to the fact that the administration doesn't like to be upfront and honest with the American public.  With you and me.  The latest example?


Hiding, rather than addressing, bad news



NASA conducted an unprecedented national survey, as part of an $8.5 million project, to gauge airline safety. The agency found problems such as near collisions and runway interference occur far more frequently than the government previously recognized. In response, Bush administration officials are considering sweeping new safety regulations meant to inspire public confidence in air travel. [...]
