Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is resigning. Reuters gives a few possible reasons. Since Palin has repeatedly said she's not a quitter, only this one makes sense to me: "She fears a looming political problem, perhaps even a scandal, and wanted out of the limelight, before the news broke." Her statement does not allude to [...]Don't forget to check out my Arkansas posts at The Examiner

Palin: All Over The Place
My goodness, but that was a rambling statement by Sarah Palin. More than a few cups of coffee, perhaps? She's not running for re-election. Before you start figuring that means a presidential bid in 2012, she's also quitting as governor! Not exactly the kind of move most prospective presidential candidates would do.

And So, It Begins
Barack Obama is now the 44th President of the United States. As I write this, the parade has not yet begun. Still, some are looking ahead to 2012 and the GOP candidates. Can Palin REALLY be the front-runner?

Oddsmakers Like Palin, Romney for GOP in 2012
I’ll give more to Jindal than they do, but that’s just me: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is the front-runner to win the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, according to online oddsmakers. Despite a slew of negative press this fall about Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) running mate, online gaming site Superbook.com puts Palin’s odds at 3.5-1, the best [...]

Talking Heads
There are those brief moments when the television news channels deliver. MSNBC's David Shuster is one of the small band of news folks who aren not afraid to ask the tough, even uncomfortable, questions. Take a look.

Wingnut John Ziegler pays Shuster a second visit from Planet Bizarro
John Ziegler, the wingnut "documentary filmmaker" who got that much-discussed interview with Sarah Palin, showed up for a second go-round yesterday afternoon with MSNBC's David Shuster after making a national ass of himself earlier in the day during Shuster's morning news show. In many respects, it was just a repeat of [...]

Preferential Treatment
Looks like Sarah Palin got a tad bit of preferential treatment during the campaign, just to avoid negative publicity.
Cops Sat on Sherry Johnston's Search Warrant Due to Palin
There are new details the the drug case of Sherry Johnston, the mother of future Palin son-in-law Levi Johnston, who was arrested on oxycontin-related charges last week. The police busted a couple of her associates, turned them into snitches, wired them, and [...]By the way, we're hunkered down under late December tornado watches. Slowing Down
The Christmas rush is over (yeah, it's from a really nice Christmas song) and things are returning to normal. Kind of! I ended up with a productive day, mixed up my first batch of homebrew in my new Mr. Beer system, tossed out the herbs in my Aerogarden and set it up with the Spring Mix that I got for Christmas (amazingly, these are supposed to sprout in a day or two and be ready to use in three weeks!), and made ANOTHER batch of my "famous" Chex Mix scrambles for the kids and me!
Something a bit more serious? Or not.

Sarah Palin: Blast From The Past
Remember Sarah Palin? Governor of Alaska? Republican vice-presidential nominee? Expensive wardrobe? Can see Russian from her house? Gets her news from a vast variety of sources? Yeah, that's the one. Here at TPMmuckraker, we've kind of been steering clear of [...]Follow me on Twitter! www.twitter.com/dougkrile

How's This For A Raise?
I'd take a 20% bump any day. How about you?
Palin-appointed commission recommends $25,000 raise for the governor.
The new Alaska State Officers Compensation Commission has recommended that Gov. Sarah Palin (R) receive a 20 percent raise, pushing her salary up from $125,000 to $150,000. However, the five-member commission was appointed by the governor, with two of them selected “from lists recommended by legislative leaders.” At the same time, Palin has proposed cutting [...]UPDATE: I'll give her credit for turning down any raise. For now.
Palin won't accept raise
Gov. Sarah Palin didn't ask for a pay raise and won't accept one during her current term, a spokesman said Wednesday. A new state commission appointed by Palin recommends [...]

Is Something Fishy in Anchorage?
We've been down this road before, but it looks like a couple of the more prominent bloggers aren't giving up.
Questioning Palin's Pregnancy
Andrew Sullivan wants someone to prove him wrong in questioning whether Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is actually the mother of her fifth child, Trig. "Please make me look like an idiot for asking these questions," he writes. But despite a private meeting with [...]

Two Schools of Thought
Here's the video of the day, courtesy of Sarah Palin. On one hand, you don't think your turkey just walked itself into that nice little plastic bag, do you? On the other hand, it's not real smart to do a TV interview while some guy kills turkeys just behind you. And, please, be careful of the words you use. Some of her lines just make things worse. Be warned, unless you're a hunter, you might find this a bit gruesome. This is the "unblurred" version.

Weekend Reading
If you haven't found the time to read through the seven-part Newsweek series on the 2008 Campaigns, this weekend would be a great time to do it. It's spectacular work by a sizable team of writers.
Click Here and start reading. Note that there are links to all seven parts near the top of the page. Yes, it really is THAT good.

Oh, Man, They Are Upset
This is fun to watch. I figured this might happen when even the Fox News folks started running with the Sarah Palin stories, fed by sources in the campaign. Get your scorecard ready!
A Boycott Of Fox News By Conservatives
Bloggers on Free Republic, AKA Freepers, are mad as Hell and they aren’t going to take it any more. The treatment of Sarah Palin by Fox reporter Carl Cameron and others has incensed them to the point where they are vowing never to watch again. I’ve compiled some of the comments from the site for [...]Technorati Tags: Palin, Fox News

Okay, Campbell Brown on CNN got the nod just below from a decent commentary. Olbermann nailed the same topic, in a slightly different manner.

Irony. Short and simple.
County Where Palin Hailed "Real America" Voted Overwhelmingly For Obama

The Palin Saga Continues
You're not gonna believe this, but I'm posting a SECOND Fox News video in one day - another one that actually makes sense. I checked - my temperature is normal.
Palin Didn't Know Africa Is A Continent, Says Fox News Reporter (VIDEO)
Now that the 2008 election is over, reporters are spilling all the juciest, and previously off the record, gossip from the campaign trail. Much of it is about the infighting between Palin and McCain's staff, as Newsweek's treasure trove of post-election gossip reveals. However, perhaps one of the most astounding and previously unknown tidbits about Sarah Palin has to do with her already dubious grasp of geography. According to Fox News Chief White House Correspondent Carl Cameron, there was great concern [...]Technorati Tags: Sarah Palin

Good Golly, Ms. Palin!
I know she wants to be out there, on her own, saying what she wants to say - but this is getting ridiculous. How much distance can the McCain camp put between him and the lady who speaks before thinking.

Ouch. This didn't go the way the McCain camp expected. Not at all.
Eagleburger Blisters Palin: "Of Course" She's Not Ready
A former Republican Secretary of State and one of John McCain's most prominent supporters offered a stunningly frank and remarkably bleak assessment of Sarah Palin's capacity to handle the presidency should such a scenario arise.Lawrence Eagleburger, who served as Secretary of State under George H.W. Bush and whose endorsement is often trumpeted by McCain, said on Thursday that the Alaska governor is not only unprepared to [...]UPDATE: Can you say "backpeddle"?

Sarah Palin Speaking To Workers At Solar Energy Plant: DRILL BABY DRILL!!

Counting The Days
All of this is beginning to wear me down. It's not even 7 pm and I'm whippped from trying to follow "he says, she says" all day long. But the "gotcha" game is quite fun to watch!
Tucker Bounds: When Palin Shares The Wealth, It Isn’t Socialism — It’s ‘Unique’
The McCain campaign has spent the last weeks of the campaign repeatedly accusing Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) of being an advocate of “socialism.” But the New Yorker’s Philip Gourevitch revealed this week that Palin said earlier this year that her state’s oil tax was a mechanism “so we share in the wealth when the development [...]

Not very much so. Let's see...how many excuses can you count?
Where are Palin’s medical records?
In an interview with NBC’s Brian Williams last week, Palin said — apparently to the surprise of her staff — that she would release her full medical records soon. On Sunday, the campaign told ABC News the release would happen “early this week.” Noting that “today is Wednesday,” ABC is wondering, “What’s the hold up?” ABC [...]
I'm Speechless
Once again, Sarah Palin leaves me speechless. And I'm not the only one. You won't believe this one.
Palin already talking about her plans for 2012: "I'm not doing this for naught"
UPDATE: Thursday morning: Looks like ABC might have gone a bit overboard in how it previewed this interview.Wow. This is pretty stunning. Sarah Palin just threw McCain under the Straight Talk Express. Palin told ABC News that she is indeed already thinking about 2012:Gov. Sarah Palin suggested that if the Republican ticket is defeated on Tuesday she expects to be [...]
