Catching Up

Just a quick update to let you know that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth.  The new project is moving ahead quickly and I'm thrilled about that. I might mean slower posts around here, until I get back into the swing of things.  In the meantime, keep check back and enjoy a moment of zen from this morning's Morning Joe!

Great Start to the Weekend

Don't ya' just love it when your hometown gets some good publicity?

Kind words for Little Rock

It's always nice to wake up to the first morning of spring, with the sun shining brightly, and the temperatures warming to more seasonal levels. But it's made even nicer when a complimentary article about our [...]

Guns. Arkansas. Again

Time to bring on some national attention, again, to our fair state.

Just keep that gun holstered

It seems every day brings another story about how to deal with guns in Arkansas. A bill making it okay to carry a gun to church was shot down in a Senate committee last week, although there's been talk that its sponsor [...]

Good News

Finally, a few hints at optimism in the economy and job situation. The stock market was up, big-time, yesterday and is holding (so far) today. I know it's likely just a short-lived bump, but it's still a bit of hope. And today, there is a bit of good news on the Arkansas job outlook.

Food For Thought

Actually, it's food for the stomach. Good stuff from an early-season Farmers' Market.

Tomatoes, tuna and shrimp

Fresh from the market - "Doug Krile"  What a pleasant surprise on this warm Arkansas Saturday! Looks at what I came home with; the fish I had ordered AND the first homegrown tomatoes of the season!  Sure, they were grown in a [...]

Sunday Drinking

We've been able to get a beer or a glass of wine in a restaurant, on Sundays, here in Arkansas for quite a while. Now, we're inching closer to being able to pick up a bottle of wine or liquor at our corner liquor store on Sunday. Is this progress?

Sunday liquor sales in Arkansas

Photo courtesy: Amy Jacobs Arkansas is one of those states still holding onto some of the old "Blue Laws" banning certain things on Sundays. The state started allowing retail stores to open on Sunday years ago, but as recently as the [...]

Bucking the National Trends

Yes, there are indications that Arkansas is dodging the worst of the financial crisis, but not to the extent that USA Today portrayed it today.  At least not in my estimation. My latest post on examiner.com.

Little Rock as an example

If you happened to snag a copy of the USA Today newspaper this morning, you would have noticed the feature story on the Arkansas economy. You would also notice some similarities to a couple of statements I made in this recent Examiner article.[ ...]

Usually Funny

From a usually funny blogger, comes stinging criticism of Arkansas' just-passed initiative to make sure gays and unmarried couples can't adopt children. It's a sad change that was promoted (I got approached by a petitioner who said something like "it was a change to make Arkansas' adoption laws better for the children". Right..

Fostering and Adoption in Arkansas

This isn't the least bit funny or entertaining, but I have to get this off my chest. Arkansas voters passed by a 57% majority, a vile proposition stating: [...]

Cheers!

From one of the staunchly right-leaning blogs I follow comes a most unexpected post. Pilgrim, you nailed this issue.  Thanks!

Election 2008: Arkansas Bans Adoption Of Children By Gays And Unmarried Couples

My views on this probably won't set well with some of my fellow conservatives, but [...]

More Bad Press

I'd been avoiding this story, but it's managed to sneak it's way out to the world.  So, without further ado, please know that I'm with those who think this is simply tragic.  Stupid. Outlandish. We have two dogs, so I'm prejudiced. Still, what is the line of thinking that allows this..

Who let the dogs out?

The entire blogosphere is learning about Helena-West Helena Mayor James Valley. Today's report on Wonkette: "Arkansas, our greatest state, has produced our nation’s favorite fat politicians (Mike Huckabee and Bill Clinton) while not really being part of Western Civilization. Proof? Mayor James Valley, “of Helena-West Helena,” just shut down his town’s animal shelter and set all the dogs loose in [..]
