You know the background to the Reid letter. He blasts Rush Limbaugh for maligning the 12 year old kid who spoke out in support of the SCHIP bill. Then, he gets 40+ fellow Senators to sign a letter to Limbaugh's boss, urging him to repudiate Rush. Rush kind of turned the tables, putting the letter up for auction on Ebay, with a promise that he would personally match the going price and give all the money to a Marine charity. Today, as the auction closed - raising more money than anyone probably thought possible - Reid tried to regain a slice of the story. Follow the link and take a glance, just to see the final bid. News flash: Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) just praised Rush Limbaugh on the Senate floor.
There are pundits who thought Reid went too far in trying to save face. I don't know. It did happen kind of late in the game. Anybody who'd had an ear to the ground this week knew the bids were astronomical. I think Reid would have looked better had he stepped up several days ago and said something along the lines of what he said today.
