It's A Beautiful Saturday

Absolutely gorgeous day, weatherwise, around these parts. Hit the Farmers' Market first thing this morning and got some still-fresh local squash, farm-fresh eggs, apples, tomatoes, hormone-free beef and fresh shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico.  It's great to have these providers do some searching for product to keep attracting folks to the market, even though we're past the end of the season for most local products.

The downer is that we're treating the pup we got from the shelter last year for heartworms.  Took her in for her yearly checkup a week ago and the blood test came back positive.  So, she's had her first "treatment" and we have to do our best to keep her quiet for a month.  Then she gets a double dose - two treatments on two consecutive days - and then another quiet month.  Excitement can break the dying worms loose and cause big problems. She gave us a scare overnight, showing some of the dangerous symptoms we were warned about.  But, they cleared up this morning and she seems to be doing okay. Wish us luck.  Prayers wouldn't hurt, either. One week down and seven to go.

Football wise, it's one down and two to go as I write this.  Iowa beat Illinois, 10 to 6.  Surprised the heck out of me, after watching Illinois power their way to a win last weekend!  Still to come, Arkansas and Auburn, plus Missouri and Oklahoma.  Both are  TV games, so - you can figure where I'll be camped this evening!

Ooops. Almost forgot to throw in a real link!  The comments yesterday from General Sanchez really are quite amazing.

My thoughts regarding General Sanchez

I'm quite pleased that General Ricardo Sanchez finally came out and called Iraq what it is - a "nightmare" for the United States. I especially liked his catchy statement - “I think once you are retired, you have a responsibility to the nation, to your oath, to the country, to state your opinion.”  I couldn't agree more. I'm sure we all remember [...]
