Huckabee in the Headlines

Knock me over with a feather.  Mike Huckabee continues to land some great publicity and seems to be picking up steam as a real candidate. Who'd a thunk it?  Will it last? No telling, but the coverage this week certainly won't hurt..

Hotline After Dark -- TV Likes Mike

Sam Brownback drops out of the WH race and Mike Huckabee gets a lot of TV interviews: Huckabee was profiled on "World News Tonight" as part of its "Who Is" series: Huckabee: "I still remember my father taking me to meet the governor of Arkansas when I was eight years old. And he said 'Son, you may live your whole life and you may never get to meet a governor in person.' And to think and his son [...]

Love that Huck

David Brooks of NY Times writes that Mike Huckabee has a realistic chance of winning Republican nomination. Huckabee couldn't have gotten better if he wrote it himself and it almost reads like he did. Brooks, of course, is often bad wrong on things. A Religious Right summit today and tomorrow becomes more important for the candidates hoping to rally that base. This gets tricky, of course. Rally those folks too much and [...]

With all the good thoughts, let's toss a bit of water on the fire and introduce a harsh reality.

Don’t get caught up in the Huck-mentum

A poll in Iowa this week showed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) a close third, right behind Fred Thompson and only seven points back from Mitt Romney, who’s in the lead. A day later, another Iowa poll also showed Huckabee in third, and closing in on second. The notion that Huckabee, who also fared [...]

Then, there's the other issue. Money.

How to Raise $1.8M in 3 Days

Republicans need to understand what’s happening here: This is the result of just three emails sent by the Obama campaign. It’s more than Mike Huckabee raised last quarter. It’s probably more than any Republican raised online last quarter with the exception of Ron Paul. Think about that. One email. $650,000. Imagine what their nominee will do to [...]

Hillary Clinton's raising $$$$, too.  But, catching a lot of flack for how she's doing it -

The Money Honey

No, I'm not referring to CNBC's Bartiromo, I'm speaking of Hillary Clinton, whose superhuman fundraising efforts are once again making news - and not in a good way. Peter Nicholas and Tom Hamburger [...]

On the other hand, it's not ALL suspicious -

Beltway Insiders Flock to Clinton

"New fundraising data shows that Beltway insiders who had been on the fence are flocking to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign as she has maintained her strong lead in the polls, performed well in debates and made few mistakes," The Hill reports. "Clinton raised $1 million from Washington, D.C. donors during the third quarter of 2007, far more than any other presidential candidate and [...]

UPDATE: Later tonight, this thought on the outcome of that big evangelical meeting this weekend -

Political Strategy: Keep An Eye On Mike Huckabee

The Republican Party remains unconvinced by their front running presidential candidates. This weekend religious conservative s are holding a Values Voter Summit in Washington DC…hoping to identify a candidate they can support. Despite the many pundits who believe Rudi Giuliani is headed towards the Republican Party’s nomination, I have my suspicions that we will see [...]
