Time Out

Take a quick break.  Another "blast from the past", stumbled upon today.  "Beany and Cecil".  Remember that cartoon?  A gentleman named Irv Shoemaker did a couple of the voices for several episodes.  He was married to a businesswoman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the time.  What a GREAT cartoon.  Creative. Fun. Entertaining. And, what a signature theme -  A Bob Clampett Car-Toooooon!

  1. Irv Shoemaker was married to more than a business woman in Cedar rapids Iowa during the time he did this. He was also married to a woman named Patricia Spicer, and the two of them moved to South Bend Indiana, circa 1959-60. During that time they had a television show together known as "Kidsville USA" (out of Elkhart Indiana) and sported the puppets DD Donovan and Tagalong. This was a host show for the three stooges, and to my knowledge was the first puppet to have an actual hand. During this time he regularly flew to Los Angeles to work for Bob Clampett to do the Cecil series. I know this to be true, as I was his stepson. 2. I remember the DD Donovan show fondly. I named our family dog Tag-along after the weather presenting dog and DD Donovan's sidekick. I loved the show!
